Andrew Tiffenbach is a mechanical engineer with the Bureau of Reclamation’s Technical Service Center, Water Treatment Group, in Denver, Colorado. Andrew has been with Reclamation for 17 years, participating in both research and design efforts. For the past five years Andrew has coordinated advanced water treatment prize competitions led by Reclamation’s Research and Development Office. This program seeks to accelerate research to address elusive mission and operations challenges through private sector and “citizen solver” engagement. Andrew also helps to manage Reclamation’s Desalination and Water Purification Research Program, which provides funding to support research and technology innovation in the water treatment field. In addition, Andrew also serves as the Technical Service Center client liaison for Reclamation’s Missouri Basin Region. Andrew has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a M.S. in Engineering and Technology Management, both from Colorado School of Mines.
Finalists will attend a demonstration event in June 2022 to compete for the Final Prize at the Bureau of Reclamation’s Yuma Desalting Plant. The Demonstration Event Panel will be present for the Finalists’ demonstrations and will provide feedback that will inform the selection of the Winner for the $150,000 award. A pool of $100,000 may be additionally awarded to Finalists who are not named as the Winner. Determination of the Winner and the award of additional prizes rests with solely with Common Pool.
