Tom Pankratz is the Houston, Texas-based editor of the weekly Water Desalination Report and an independent consultant. He is a former vice president for CH2M Hill, and was also the director of corporate projects for USFilter/Veolia. For the past 12 years, he has organized and moderated Global Water Intelligence’s Technology Idol event, which showcases early-stage desalination technologies. He has also been a judge for the Sheik Zayed Sustainability Prize for Water, the Middle East Desalination Research Center Desalination Research Challenge, and multiple US Department of Energy Water Grand Challenge technology competitions.
Finalists will attend a demonstration event in June 2022 to compete for the Final Prize at the Bureau of Reclamation’s Yuma Desalting Plant. The Demonstration Event Panel will be present for the Finalists’ demonstrations and will provide feedback that will inform the selection of the Winner for the $150,000 award. A pool of $100,000 may be additionally awarded to Finalists who are not named as the Winner. Determination of the Winner and the award of additional prizes rests with solely with Common Pool.
